밖에 나갈 일만 없다면 비 오는 날은 완벽하다. 약간의 습기를 띤 공기. 유리창을 미끄러져 내리는 빗물. 비에 젖은 도로를 가르는 차의 소리. 평소에는 다소 무심했었던, 손끝에 닿는 따뜻한 찻잔의 온기가 심장까지 전해져 오는 느낌. 어쿠스틱 기타의 현을 튕기는 소리가 원래 이렇게 다정했었나? 피아노의 음색은 더욱 청명하다.

아, 엄마가 해 준 김치부침개 먹고 싶다. 아니면 감자부침개. 물론 파전도 대 환영. 조만간 밀가루를 사야겠다.

한 번도 기타 치는 남자가 멋있다고 생각해 본 적이 없다. 락 밴드를 한참 좋아할 때도 항상 기타리스트는 아웃 오브 안중이었다. 아마 기타라는 악기 자체에 흥미가 없었기 때문이었기 때문인 것 같다. 일렉트릭 기타는 너무 현란해서 귀가 아팠고, 통기타는 음, 촌스러웠다. 아마 어릴 때 클래식을 들으면서 자랐고 내가 연주할 수 있는 유일한 악기인 피아노로는 늘 클래식 곡을 연주하니까 클래시컬한 맛이 없는 악기에 매력을 못 느꼈다는 편이 맞겠다. 클래식한 면을 아예 모르는 건 아니다. Aranjuez 협주곡을 안 들어본 건 아니건만, 그 곡은 멋있다고 생각하고 또 좋아하는 것과 별개로, 여전히 기타 소리는 좀 세련되지 않고 촌스럽다는 생각이 든달까... 기타를 좋아하는 사람들에게는 미안하지만 어쨌든 취향이란 게 그런 거니까!

하지만 나이가 들어서 그런지, 취향이 바뀐건지 최근에서야 기타의 매력을 느끼게 되었다. 조만간 기타를 꼭 배우고 말 거라고 생각하게 한 노래는 바로 윤하의 Strawberry Days. 가사도 풋풋하니 귀엽고, 윤하 보컬도 더 없이 청순하고, 어찌나 기타 소리가 가을 하늘처럼 청명한지 완전 반해버렸다. 가을 소풍 가서 사이다 마시는 기분! 그래서 기타는 됐고 일단 노래를  연습해 봤는데 고음이 올라가질 않아.... 어찌 됐든 이 곡을 커버 제 1순위로 하고 있고, 제 2순위는 Brett Dennen의 Desert Sunrise. 이 노래는 일단 가사가 참 좋다. 아무 반주도 없이 기타 현을 튕기는 소리가 나직한 목소리랑 어울려 차분해지는 기분으로 사막의 일출을 상상하게 된다. 차가운 밤이 지나고, 끝도 없는 모래 위에 떠오르는 붉은 해. 볼에 닿는 오렌지빛 온기. 당신의 눈부신 빛. 아이고 좋아라...
